In industrial thermal applications, the operation system of hot-water gas boilers is relatively complex, involving both the boiler system and the piping system. Additionally, what are some key considerations to keep in mind during the later stages of operating a hot-water gas boiler system? Heze Boiler provides you with a detailed introduction:
Precautions for Operating Hot-Water Gas Boilers
(1) When starting the large circulating water pump, first open the bypass valve to prevent damage to the boiler or radiators caused by excessively rapid pressure rise during startup. After the boiler is running normally, open the main water valve and close the bypass valve.
(2) As the water temperature rises and make-up water enters the boiler, gases will continuously precipitate; therefore, the air vent valve should be opened frequently.
(3) During operation, the hot-water gas boiler should also be periodically drained through the blowdown valve. When draining, pay attention to maintaining stable pressure inside the boiler to prevent water hammer accidents caused by evaporation of boiler water. The wastewater from the network system is discharged via a wastewater treatment plant.
(4) Minimize the make-up water volume in hot-water heating systems, promptly repair any leaks, strengthen management of air vents and drain devices, and prohibit the arbitrary discharge of hot water for other purposes. Under normal circumstances, the system’s make-up water volume should be kept within 1% of the system’s circulating water volume.
(5) The expansion pipe of the expansion tank shall be installed on the boiler’s water supply (outlet) main pipe. It is strictly prohibited to install valves on the expansion pipe, and anti-freeze measures must be taken.
(6) The circulating water should maintain a certain flow rate and flow evenly into each heated surface to prevent evaporation.
(7) Appropriate measures for power outage protection should be implemented. When a natural-circulation hot-water gas boiler experiences a sudden power failure, the boiler water can still continue circulating, posing little threat to safe operation. However, if a forced-circulation hot-water gas boiler suddenly loses power and the pump and fan are forced to stop running, the circulation of boiler water will immediately cease, making it prone to serious accidents due to evaporation. Some larger boiler rooms are equipped with backup power supplies or diesel engines that can be quickly started in the event of a grid power failure, ensuring that the water circulation within the system remains uninterrupted.
(8) To ensure coordinated operation between the boiler firing system and the water circulation system, and to prevent accidents and their escalation, it is best to interlock the boiler’s coal feeding, ventilation, and other related equipment with the water pump, so that the furnace will immediately extinguish once the water circulation stops.
(9) Nowadays, environmental protection is being promoted everywhere, especially for gas-fired boilers. When purchasing a boiler, users should pay attention to local environmental regulations and choose a boiler that meets these requirements.
The above introduces the precautions for operating hot-water boiler systems. In fact, it is crucial to ensure the safe and stable operation of both steam boilers and hot-water boilers. Boiler operators should always keep the boiler within the normal operating range to guarantee its safe and reliable performance.
